Rakim Mayers goes by the name A$AP Rocky from Harlem, New York. When Rakim was 12 years old , hes father went to jail for selling drugs, then a year later hes older brother was killed near hes apartment which inspired him to start rapping.


When I first heard " Purple Swag" by A$AP i thought, " umm... this is a weird beat". Although I searched up more songs by him and soon discovered my new favorite rapper. The one thing i love about A$AP is that he has different types of beats. The majority of hes songs are slower, although it has that type of beat that you bob your head to. Hes flow tops it off. "He has the swag that could only come from a young harlem dude" Complex magazine says about rocky. What also attracts me to him is hes swagger with the gold teeth , gold chains , gold jewelry etc. I fine hes a rapper that pulls it off well without looking like a complete show off. Its basically part of hes image. If you know Asap you would know him by hes famous slangs such as " trill" ( An adjective used in hip-hop culture to describe someone who is considered to be well respected, coming from a combination of the words "true" and "real".) and "pretty mother******" ( meaning your handsome, or have swag ). What are you doing? Stop reading this and plunge yourself into hes "trill" music !!

6th ... Tyler, The Creator

Born and raised in Los Angeles , California Tyler Okonma or better know by Tyler, The Creator is a rapper , record producer , director, fashion designer and the head of hes own record label , Odd Future. He won a VMA award for Best New Artist competing against other big rappers and singers such as Chris Brown , Big Sean , Foster The People , Wiz Khalifa and Kreayshawn. Tyler The Creator is best known for hes song " Yonkers ", which illustrated him as a weird and disturbed rapper.


Although, I like that about Tyler. Hes different. He has a unique sense of talent , and is also known for hes wild , free spirit personality. Tyler is one of my favorite rappers because hes lyrics are usually hilarious but the majority of the time offensive and vulgar. Its a shame to say that I love it  and whenever he rappes it seems like hes narrating a story rather than rapping. Tyler is a person that just doesnt care. If you've been a fan of him and follow up on hes songs  , you would know that hes a major prankster with  a goofy personality and for a 21 year old hes pretty immature, but that's all good ,hes crazy songs and also hes dope line of clothing makes up for all of that. Although some people don't like Tyler due to hes weird sense of rapping and personality. He isn't the type of rapper that most of us see today that rap about girls , money , cars etc. Tyler expresses hes feelings an emotions towards hes life and other social conflicts in our society.

5th ... SNOOP DOGG

Calvin Cordozar Broadus better known by hes stage name Snoop Dogg is a rapper , singer , record producer and actor from Long Beach ,California .Hes known for being a rapper in the West Coast hip hop scene and Dr.Dres notorious proteges. Snoop Doggs frequently ran into trouble with the law . He was a member of the Crip gang in high school and shortly after hes graduation he got  arrested for the possession of cocaine then spent six months in Wayside County Jail. After hes release , he then began hes music career in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr.Dre.


If you've ever wondered why he was named "Snoop Dogg" , hes mom actually named him that because of hes appearance ! Snoop Dogg's lyrics were heavy in violence and sexism that he actually got arrested for it once. Besides hes hardcore lyrics, I personally love Snoop Dogg because of hes drawled rhyming. After switching up hes image from gangsta rap to a calmer lyrical aesthetic , I still have respect for Snoop. Hes smooth rhyming and cool flow captivates me into listening to hes music. Hes known for hes drawling laconic rhyming and hes "stoner" image. Snoop Dogg is a pretty laid back , down to earth rapper with a funny personality. Another reason why I like him. Although there really isn't much to say about Snoop Dogg , its all in hes music.

4th ... THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G ( BIGGIE SMALLS )

Raised in Brooklyn , New York , Christopher Wallace ( Biggie Smalls ) was an american rapper. He grew more popular in the East  Coast hip hop scene and increased New Yorks visibility when he released hes album Ready to Die in 1994 at the time where West Coast rappers were more mainstream. Unfortunetly on March 9 , 1997, Biggie got shot on in Los Angeles, California.


Although he died , I believe that Biggie will always be a hip hop icon. When it came to hes songs , he always had tight lyrics and a cool flow. Biggies life was pretty hardcore , from selling drugs to being in and out of jail. As a way to keep himself out of the streets , he rapped alot about reality and hes life.Those rhymes got him pretty far through which P. Diddy discovered him and he set the bar high for other underground rappers in New York.  Besides the fact that the majority of hes songs were vulgar ,  I think it  symbolized him. It shows that hes real and down to earth, and according to some of hes fan he was a symbol of senseless violence. Biggie was a gifted story teller with a great sense of humor. He narrated hes songs often about violence in the street in a realistic way that won him enormous respect and credibility. 


Biggie Smalls will always be remembered and represented as one of hip hops greatest rapper representing the East Coast forever !!

3rd ..TUPAC.

Tupac Shakur was a legendary west coast rapper. Unfortunetly Tupac got shot on September 7 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although hes life got taken away too fast , hes still a legendary rapper. Tupac rapped alot about violence , racism , social problems and also competition with others rappers during a big East Coast - West Coast conflict between rappers ( mainly Tupac and another rapper, Biggie Smalls ). 

I believe that Tupac was a great rapper back in the 90’s. He fought and rapped for what he believed in. Complicated as he was , Tupac expressed hes emotions, political and social views through hes songs. He practically was a new meaning to hip hop. He was like a philosopher but expressed himself through hes meaningful lyrics…Although he wasn’t only a rapper , he was also an actor. He starred in many movies , such as , “Poetic Justice” with Janet Jackson , ” Juice” , ” Above the Rim” and many more. 

I’m serious ! Tupac really was never forgotten. Just recently at the Coachella Music Festival , Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre had a surprise performance that had everyone anticipating to see. The master mind behind it , Dr. Dre unveiled Tupac Shakur in a hologram like image that rapped and danced along with Snoop Dogg.  

Up to this day , Tupac is an icon to the African - American society , and to others that look up to him aswell.

2nd ... KANYE WEST.

Whos Kanye? Kanye West ( also known as Kanye Omari West ) from Chi City ( Chicago ) is not only a rapper , but a film director and fashion designer. 

In my opinion , he is one of the best rappers because hes lyrics actually have meaning to it, sometimes strong messages , volgure ones , sad , funny , etc. Besides the fact that he can be a lyrical genius , he also has great flow  that suits the beat which makes hes songs even better. Kanye can be considered to be the best rapper due to hes 5 amazing albums & an impeccable duo album with Jay Z , Watch The Throne. I think that he has a unique sense in music , that's why I enjoy listening to hes songs. If its not the beat of the song  , its the lyrics that make up for it. If its not the lyrics , its the beat. Never has Kanye  made a song that doesn't have dope lyrics or beat.

Kanye West is also a fashion designer , something that interests me into him more because I have an undesirable love for fashion & for him aswell !

1st ... JAY Z

Shawn Corey Carter (Jay Z)  is a songwriter , record producer , entrepreneur , & an amazing rapper that’s worth listening to ! Jay Z  is constantly ranked as best rappers of all time. In my opinion , I think that is obvious. Jay Z has a numerous exceptional albums ( especially Watch The Throne one of my favorite albums from him and Kanye West )  , which two of them Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint were ranked in Rolling Stones magazine’s list of 500 greatest albums of all time. Jay Z is a lyrical genius. Hes pretty poetic. Jay Z’s past wasn’t all that perfect, whereas he would transform hes life story’s into a song, freestyling it , or expressing them in a poetic way. I like the fact that Jay Z’s lyrics have meaning to it, like at the end of most of hes songs theirs a moral to it. Hes not like some rappers today that rap about pure garbage and have no flow. In general Jay Z is just all about hes strong full lyrics , which is probably the key to becoming a great rapper. As old as he is , he makes it look cool to be a 42 year old rapper !
